Chives

Chives

Allium schoenoprasum

Approx. 500 seeds

Fine and flavourful chives with delicate oniony notes. Also a source of beautifully puffy purple flower balls for picking. A lovely companion plant for carrots, celery, tomatoes, apples, grapes and roses but they don’t play so nicely with beans or peas.

Easy to grow, hard to kill… they tolerate frost and a good dry spell. It is an evergreen in warm-winter regions and once established chives will grow for many years. A great container plant for sunny windowsills. They like a well-drained, sandy soil rich in organic matter.

Sow period: September-May
